Everything You Need to Host a Movie Night

Sunday, September 27, 2015

The air has got colder and there is a high chance you are probably suffering from the flu - that is how you know it is officially Autumn! It's a Sunday night, the fire is roaring and you're drinking some Earl Grey tea. Maybe you decide to catch up on 'Mad Men,' or perhaps you're in the mood for a scary horror. Whatever it is, I'm here to help you with everything you need to host the perfect movie night!

Anyone who knows me will know I am obsessed with movie nights. I find them much more enjoyable than a night out in town, so I promise, if there is anybody to trust with this, it's me!

The Perfect Screen
If you are a lover of the movies, then I highly suggest you invest on a spectacular television screen. What you watch your films on can totally enhance your viewing experience. It's like having a cinema in your own living room! I have always used Panasonic, and I have just recently discovered the new Panasonic Viera. Have you heard of 4k TV? Basically, 4k TV is better than HD (high definition). The image is crisper, clearer and sharper, allowing for more details to be seen. You can also connect your phone, iPad, or tablet to the TV, meaning you can view the screen on a larger scale. 4k is the future of television. Your living room will become the hotspot for movie nights!

A Range of Films/Series
If you don't have a Netflix account, WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING WITH YOUR LIFE?! Ok, sorry. Can you tell I am obsessed with Netflix?! It has taken over my social life (but that doesn't mean it has to take over yours!) Netflix is amazing for watching almost any TV show or film. It really is worth the money if you ask me. Some shows that are only shown exclusively on Netflix are some of the best (Wet, Hot American Summer; First Day of Camp or The Returned?!) Maybe your friend wants a comedy but you're in the mood for a horror - Netflix has a list of black comedies! Check out this post I did a few months back which includes some of my favourite Netflix choices

If you don't want to purchase a Netflix account, Sky Movies have some great films (new and classic) on demand! Or you could always try the old fashion method of 'renting' DVD's from your local rental store.

Getting Comfy
You want to make sure you're extra comfortable when watching a film. Double up on cushions and bring your duvet down from your bed.

I absolutely love this 'warming cushion' from Urban Outfitters. Perfect for those extra cold nights

Snacks and Treats
Watching a movie is the perfect excuse for having a little treat or two (or three). Bring the popcorn to you and order some pizza. Buy some Ben&Jerry's cookie dough ice cream and slug a glass of wine. This is your time to chill out in your onesie (nobody is judging you).

So there you have it. Just remember, this is your time to be lazy and bring the cinema to you - and you don't even have to step out of the front door. With this advice, I guess you will become an expert 'movie night geek' in no time. Who needs over-priced cinema tickets, anyway!

  1. I haven't heard of 4K TV. It sounds interesting. I used to be a movie addict too and I do also love staying in and watch a movie than going out. But lately I haven't done that because all my spare time is just for blogging. This is my new hobby! I have 2 girls so my spare time is limited! Oh Gosh, how sad I sound? LOL Thanks for your tips to for a great movie night! :-) x

  2. I really want to get a Netflix account when I get WiFi (I am on a mobile connection and, though it is fast enough to watch films, I have limited data usage). I really need to watch more movies and TV series to improve my English listening skills (and tohave fun, of course).
