The other day, a friend told me I have had the same hairstyle for years. I was a little surprised at this, a little annoyed, actually. This made me sound so boring and plain - two words I certainly do not like to associate myself with. I went home that night and immediately logged onto Facebook. I searched through all my 'private' photo albums and cringed at some of the memories. I couldn't help but laugh at some of the hairstyles. The cuts and the colours, they definitely were not boring.
Here I will take look back (at some very cringe-worthy pictures) of all my past hairstyles. Prepare yourself!
As you can see in the cover image, I was born with a lot of hair. Really thick and really dark. I have no idea who I take that after considering my mum has super fine hair. I look super pissed off in the above image, probably because my mum had just cut me a fringe using blunt kitchen scissors. That's what it looks like, anyway.
First day of nursery school means cute butterfly clips. My hair got light pretty fast, probably sun dependant. I used to hate brushing my hair because it was so thick and tatty! Still is.
And back to brown! I think I was around 10 in this image, and I was such a tomboy. I loved primary school because I didn't have to wear a skirt. I wore tracksuit bottoms and football boots! Who would have thought?!
This was my post-tomboy phase. My best friend at the time was a couple of years older than me and she would get her hair highlighted once in a while. I seriously thought she was the coolest person ever. I remember I begged my mum for highlights and on my 12th birthday I finally got them as a birthday treat!
I was about to start high school and I wanted to look trendy and chic. I was 13 at the time and it seemed like everybody had the blunt, thick fringe thing going on. I was also experimenting with straighteners at the time, learning how to curl my ends etc. It seems I was keeping on top of my highlights at this stage, too. I don't think I'll be getting a fringe any time soon.
Whoa, talk about a transformation! I can still remember walking into the hairdressers telling them I wanted my hair all blonde and I wanted super short layers with a full side-fringe. I looked up to older girls in high school, the popular ones! It was such a cool trend at the time and I actually stuck it out for a year! Keeping my roots topped up was too expensive and the bleach was damaging my hair. It was cute whilst it lasted.
Eventually, I got my hair toned down and was now a mousey brown colour. I didn't mind it, but I really went from one extreme to the other. Once you've had bleach blonde hair, going darker is hard. Sounds ridiculous, but it's true.
What a surprise! I'm back to blonde! This was taken at the MTV EMA awards and I insisted on beach waves. I actually really loved this look!
I kept the middle parting and beach waves for a while, it kind of became a signature look for me. Summer was creeping up and I was feeling experimental. I dyed my hair all kinds of crazy. I had been pink, purple, blue and green! Pink was my favourite and I love this above look. This was when I visited Disneyland Paris with my school. I promise myself I will go pink this summer, again!
The pink washed out and the side parting was in. My hair grew pretty quickly and I don't think I've had a major cut since this photograph. I couldn't afford to keep topping up my roots, so I turned to DIY box dyes. Big mistake! Although the colour didn't look too bad (although I don't think it was doing my face any favours), the long-term effects weren't worth it. I was a little older, a little more mature and I soon realised my hair's health was super important.
This photograph was taken just last week. I have dyed my roots a darker colour, meaning it is much easier to maintain my hair when it begins to grow out (roots are less noticeable). This saves a lot of money as I only need to re-touch my hair every 4/5 months. I love this look as it really compliments my skin tone (in comparison to the overall blonde look). It also means I no longer have to lighten my brows with bleach (I don't recommend this)!
I don't know what the future holds for my hair! The plan right now is to keep it the colour it is and grow it out even longer (just a little bit). My biggest hair regret was probably the 'super short layers and full side fringe' look, but then again, it seemed cool at the time!
What's your biggest hair regret? Do you cringe at any styles you have sported in the past? Let me know in the comments below!

My biggest hair regret was when I decided that I wanted my long hair cut into a short bob. I was only 7 but I've regretted it ever since x
ReplyDeleteMy hair regret was chopping it all off. I mean, I wouldn't go back and change it, as I donated it to cancer, but I wish I didn't have to deal with the countless bullying that came with it!

Recently I've been so tempted to chop all of mine off, also! But I've finally made the decision to let it grow out :) And what a lovely thing to do! You should be very proud of yourself for doing something so caring :)

This post is really lovely to read, what a transformation! I actually like your way best the way it's now! Stunning cut on you! My biggest regret is blonde highlights, it looked awful on my. Now I have a dip-dye like you do, and I love it!

I've had the same hair forever ..... Well, I think I have, but, a cut and a grow and a slightly different brown added, makes you think you've had the same hair. Unless you cut it really short, then do extensions, then colour it wacky colours, it will always look the sameish. So hard to look different hahaha
ReplyDeleteI find it hard to step out of my comfort zone! Taking baby steps is my best advice. If you want to go light, start with few highlights and build them up. If you want to go shorter then do it over a period of time! You will grow to love any new style you try :) Remember just to be YOU!

What a great post, Kaytee! Your hair is gorgeous! I really love your current hair style :D
ReplyDeleteThis is such a cute post! My biggest hair regret was when I got a perm (ahhhh) because my hair is super thick as well, so my hair ended up looking like an unbrushed poodle that had fallen into a mud puddle and shaken dry. Oy.
ReplyDeleteI really love your current hair!
I nominated you for a Liebster Award! Check out my blog post for all the details! :)
